GT Mode

Tip
A good Type of car for the Simulation disc is start off with is a 4WD (four wheel drive) or FF (front engine, front wheel drive), since these cars are much more forgiving and easier to drive than the rear wheel drive types .

The best way to make cash
Win a GT League, Rally or Special Event. Then sell the bonus car and race the circuit again. The Best race to do this on is Red Rock Vally : Heres what to do Select a car that you know can win Race 3 of the Gran Turismo All Stars series the five-lap race of Red Rock Valley. Something like a [R] Unisia GT-R GT or Pikes Peak car are easy to win with, unless you're a spectacularly inept driver. You earn 50,000 credits for winning the race, but the best thing is that the prize car is a Speed 12, which you can sell for cool 500,000 credits. Since the race takes about five and a half minutes to run, you can basically earn yourself in excess of 10,000,000 credits an hour, as long as you don't lose. Then you can buy all the Rally cars, specials and high performance cars you like.

How do you tune your nice new motor
The first thing to buy is a decent set of tires. For general racing, the racing super-soft tires are simply excellent. They let you accelerate, brake and corner at far higher speeds than stock. Tires are definitely the first upgrade you should get. Up next should be a racing muffler and performance chip. Both yield a great power boost for relatively little cash, and if it's a turbo car, a racing intercooler also delivers an impressive increase in power, again for a relatively small sum of money. Also, a racing flywheel is a superb purchase, helping the engine rev more freely and deliver power far better . Then it's just a case of personal preference and how much money you have. Suspension definitely helps, as does a racing transmission and other engine goodies. Lightening the car also gives a great performance boost, and finally a stage turbo or NA tune to boost the power through the roof.

Manufacturers Races
Manufacturer Races are very easy. All you need to win any manufacturer race is to add a stage 2 tune (either turbo or NA, depending on the car) and sports tires to the car. We didn't lose one single manufacturer race using this strategy. However, you do need to earn a lot of cash to do this, but if you start by doing the GT and Special Events first as per our recommendation above, you'll have enough bonus prize cars and money to enable you buy all the cars you need or generate more cash so you can compete in all the manufacturers races.

Sort out your motors
Players can sort and organize their garages something that GT fans have been wanting since the first game. When you're in the garage, you can use the start button to send the currently-selected car to the top of the garage. That way you can group your cars together and organize your garage however you like.

Extra HP in HP limited races
On the simulation disc you can use a car with up to 5 more HP on the races (with limited HP). Go buy a item such as race mufflers or computer, but do not equip them on the car. Before the race go into settings and equip the item. The computer will allow around 5 HP more than posted.

Get Mark Martin's NASCAR Racecar
Go to the Ford dealership, hit the link for Lineup 2, buy yourself a Ford Taurus SHO '99 ($30,980). Make sure you have $85,000 handy. Go to the tune-up area and put racing modifications on it. Now look at it! It's Mark Martin's Race Car! Cool huh!

Max Percentage
Due to weird programming errors you cannot receive 100% completion on the simulation disc. The max you can get is 98.2%

Reverse courses in Arcade mode
Win a forward course in Arcade mode at Hard difficulty.

Simulation Mode Ending Credits
Win the GT World League trophy.

The best car in the game
Choose the Suzuki Esgundo special edition and leave every car eating your dust. It has 950 hp for a top speed well above 200 and it goes round corners like a dream . It costs 2 million dollars and can be found under "special" in the Suzuki section of east city

Double Your Cash and Garage Space
It is understood that your garage in Gran Turismo 2 only holds 100 cars at a time. Lets say you have 100 cars and $10 million credits Save your game play twice on two differants memory cards. Use one card as your primary garage and one as your secondary garage. Now take the first card and sell off all the lower cars then save again. Now take the secondary card , load up and sell all the higher cars then save again on the secondary card. Keep your best race cars on the primary and all others on the secondary. You have now doubled your garage space to 200 and have doubled your credits with 10 million in each , plus what you got for the sold cars for a total credits of 20 million plus whatever earned on sold cars, split between the two garages. If you need to transfer a car from one garage to the other, use the data tranfer mode off the main menu by buying the cars off each other You will never lose the money for you own both garages. When one garage fills up, do it again.

Car wash glitch

There is a mistake at the part where you wash your car.( just like GT1 they still cant get it right ) When you go wash your car, it says it costs 5,000 credits to wash once. But it's really costing you only 50 credits.

Bypass license exams

Load a memory card containing Gran Turismo license data. Gran Turismo licenses (B Class, A Class and International-A) will fulfill similarly named license requirements in Gran Turismo 2.

Event Synthesizer

Earn the Super License to unlock the “Event Synthesizer” in GT League.

Bonus Cars

Bonus Cars in GT mode
Unlike the original (where rewards were straightforward) bonus cars in Gran Turismo 2's GT mode are more numerous and subjective. GT mode bonuses are determined by:

  1. The car the player drives (and the class it is in.)
  2. The number of consecutive wins that car has achieved prior to a given race.
  3. The course on which the race occurs.

Most of the time, bonuses vary by one class. Thus, a Class-B victory is likely to be awarded with a Class-C, Class-B or Class-A bonus car.

There are no bonus cars awarded for completing any or all of the rally races .Before we get to the complete bonus car listing, here are the Gold Cars you can win by getting all golds in each license test:

Cheating

Like the previous game, you can cheat in GT2 by cutting corners and chicanes, using walls to ricochet around bends and by utilizing overly aggressive driving techniques where you bash other cars out of the way to ensure you get that all-important first race. Whether or not you do this totally depends on what you want from the game. If you just want to win and earn money quickly, cheat away. But if you really want to learn how to play the game properly and have a decent racing challenge where your skills are truly tested, try to play the game without resorting to dirty tactics. End result, it's more fun and you end up with much cooler movies that showcase your skills. After all, who wants to see some retard in a Pikes Peak car with his foot flat to the floor, banging and ricocheting around every corner?

Bugs & Glicthes

Yes, it does have them. Just so you know, Sony is offering a replacement, allegedly bug-free copy of GT2 to consumers who've experienced bugs or glitches with their copy of the game. Basically, all you need to do is call into the Sony Customer Support line and tell them about your problems. Here's the official Sony line:

Because of this, our Consumer Services Department (CSD) is currently handling all inquires about this issue by providing an immediate solution. Consumers who have questions relating to this matter can call (800) 345-7669 (SONY). A consumer service representative will be able to help them identify if they have purchased a disc with software glitches and a replacement disc will be sent within three to five working days. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. From our product lines to our customer service, we are committed to ensuring our consumers experience only the best from PlayStation."

THERE'S A BUG THAT DELETES YOUR GARAGE

Yes, it's true -- there's a bug in GT2 that deletes your entire car collection. It seems to have happened to a large number of GT2 fans, and it must be said that we think it's an absolutely appalling bug.

It occurs when you're racing on the Test Track, selected through the Machine Test menu. Once you've raced and saved eight top speed records, the ninth save will entirely delete your garage. The safest thing to do is obviously DO NOT SAVE YOUR TEST TRACK RECORDS . It doesn't mean you can't drive on the test track. You just must be very careful about saving and always, always, always make a backup copy of your game.

YOU CAN'T COMPLETE MORE THAN 98.2% OF THE GAME

Basically, you can't get 100% in the game. This dreadful oversight was recently confirmed by Sony of Japan on its GT2 web site, stating that players can only score a maximum of 98.2%. This is Basically Because of the drag racing event that got taken out at the last minuite which is a complete bastard because I personally think that it was a class idea and also they have forgotten to take out the two drag racers the HCS 180 sx and the skyline .

RACE RECORDS ARE NOT SAVED

This was another big annoyance. The game doesn't save your race records. Instead, you have to go to Time Trials on the Arcade Disc and go for your records there, and if you save them, then they'll appear on the relevant tracks when you race. We get most of our record times while racing, so having to go into the Arcade mode to formally do Time Trials is just plain annoying. Especially when you beat a record while racing, and it's lost forever once you've finished the race. Once again, this is just a very sloppy oversight by the developer, who just didn't seem to consider players who enjoy the challenge of beating their own times during races, and not just in time trials.

RACES AREN'T PROPERLY RESTRICTED

Although the power restrictions work correctly (for example, you can't race a 593 horsepower car in a race with a max rating of 591 horsepower), you can race the "wrong" cars in a race. For example, you can race in the '80s race or a Wagon race with any car you want, as long as it doesn't exceed the maximum power for that race. This annoyed us, since it's possible to breeze through the game with only a couple of cars. Indeed, we only bought one car for most of the game (the incredible Lancer Evo VI with all the different turbo stage tunes), and instead used the Spoon S2000 that we won by getting Gold in the B license and sundry prize cars to win virtually all of the non-manufacturer races. Why the developer didn't go the extra step and ensure that you couldn't enter the "wrong" kinds of cars in a race is beyond us. It would have made the game more challenging, and seems like yet another oversight to us.

SOME CARS' HORSEPOWER CHANGE WHEN YOU BUY THEM

Something you might have noticed is that in some cases, when you buy a car and then look at it in your garage, its power often differs from the figure originally shown at the dealership. Sometimes it's an increase (for example, most of the special model Rally Cars actually have much higher power output than is stated on the manufacturers figures ) , although one in particular (the Daihatsu Rally Storia) loses nearly 100 horsepower when you check it in your garage . The Golf Gti VR6 drops from 201 horsepower (quoted in the dealership) to a feeble 141 horsepower when it's in your home garage. Which is crap, considering the real thing actually bangs out 174 horsepower. There are a large number of cars that this happens to -- our recommendation is to always save your game whenever you're about to buy a new car. That way you can always go back to your saved game if the car turns out to be disappointing.
